HOW MUCH ENERGY A SOLAR PANEL PRODUCES

Installing a system of solar panels in a home or in a store is a smart financial investment that will result in a drastic reduction in the electric bill.

HOW MUCH ENERGY TO SOLAR PANEL PRODUCES

The savings are directly linked to the amount of energy that your installation of solar energy can produce, so the question we ask ourselves is: how much energy will a photovoltaic solar panel produce and how much power does it have?

Solar Panels and Output Power

Taking into account only the classification of the solar panels (output power), it is very difficult to know how much electricity a solar panel will produce for your house.

In order to get a global idea and determine how much energy a photovoltaic panel will generate, it must take into account all the specifications that are included in the panel’s technical sheet.

The amount of solar energy produced by a panel depends mainly on the incident sunlight and the temperature conditions to which the panel is subjected, and to a lesser extent to the rest of the technical specifications.

We must take into account the shaded area of the roof of the house, its inclination and orientation, since these three factors determine the amount of solar radiation that photovoltaic panels will receive.

In addition to the above, geographic location is also a determining factor. A system of solar panels will produce much more in Murcia than in Asturias due to the amount of sunshine that is received in each province.

However, this does not mean that a solar panel installation is only profitable in Murcia; in Asturias it will be too, but to a lesser extent.

Some panels have a high power rating (kW) but simply because they are very large, instead of being more technologically efficient.

The panel of high quality in relation to the power is one that has a power of many kW and occupy the same space or less than panels of inferior quality. This is illustrated in the following example:

In the Spanish case, it makes sense to install a system of photovoltaic solar panels that allow you to maximize savings optimally depending on your available space. If you have limitations of useful space, it is advisable to install high quality panels.

Solar Panel, How to Calculate How Much Energy It Produces?

This time, taking into account the data of the power of a  solar panel  we can learn to calculate how much energy it produces.

How to calculate how much energy a solar panel produces

1.- Know the amount of radiation you receive , for this you can use a map of solar radiation like this.

The map shows the average peak sun hours in different areas and the unit of measurement it uses is kWh / m2 per day.

You do not have to worry about understanding the color of the map, just focus on locating the amount of radiation you receive.

In this case I will take as an example the radiation received in the State of Mexico, which is 5.2

2.- Know the power of your solar panel , this data can be seen in the back of the panel.

To know some of the classifications of the solar panels,  click here .

In the example we will take a 50W solar panel

3.- Apply the WMP formula * peak hours per day = kWh / day

WMP is the maximum power of the solar panel and, consequently, it is the 50w with which the equipment is classified.

Then, when changing the data by real values, the formula would be:
50 * 5.2 = 206 kWh / day

Now multiply this result by 30 (to obtain a total of kW / h per month) and to end divide the result by 1000 to obtain the actual amount of kW / h, you can compare the result with the amount of kW / h that appears on your electricity bill.

In this way you will know what percentage of your electricity demand you can cover when installing a solar panel.

Remember that the actual power of a solar panel varies depending on factors such as the weather or the season of the year.
